02 / ENGINEER-LED RAPID TOOLING

Rubber & silicone prototypes.

A simplified mold for a real molded part. Work with a Vulcan engineer to assess the compound, tool design and sample plan.

  • Flexible pads, grommets and other elastomer concepts
  • Metal prototype tooling selected for the process
  • Sample approval before a proposed production run

Often called “soft tooling.” Run quantity and tool life are confirmed after engineering review.

FROM REQUEST TO NEXT STEP

Clear scope.
Then a clear plan.

  1. 01 / Share the part

Upload your parts together and set each quantity, model units and preferences in one list. Design help follows a separate path.

  2. 02 / Choose print options

Choose an available material, color and quantity for each file. Confirm the displayed dimensions and authorize Slant processing.

  3. 03 / See your printing price

Eligible STL files receive a supplier-backed printing estimate before contact details. Proceed with quote checks shipping for a delivery address. Optional molded-production assessments follow a separate path.

BEFORE YOU START

A few useful answers.

Do I need a finished 3D file?

No. A sketch, dimensions or a clear description can start a concept request. Design work and print production need their own agreed scope. A visual concept is not a validated functional part.

Does “soft tooling” mean a soft mold?

Not necessarily. Here it means a simplified prototype tool for molded rubber or silicone parts. The mold can be metal even when the finished part is flexible. Depending on the process, an engineer may consider aluminum or a suitable tool steel, including a pre-hardened grade. This is different from pouring polyurethane into a flexible silicone casting mold.

Could a prototype mold produce 10,000 parts?

Possibly, for a suitable part and a qualified tool and process. Treat 10,000 as a target to assess, not a standard capacity or guaranteed tool life. Compound, cure temperature, pressure, geometry, tolerances, cavity count, wear and maintenance all affect the result. Vulcan must confirm the proposed run and sample acceptance plan.

What can I upload, and when?

The printing cart accepts up to 20 files, 25 MB each and 50 MB combined. Design and tooling requests accept up to five files. Files stay in your browser until you authorize automatic pricing or explicitly request a production assessment. Only STL receives automatic printing prices. STEP/STP, IGES/IGS, OBJ and 3MF must first be exported to STL; PDFs and images need a 3D model. These other files can be attached to an optional molded-production assessment. ZIP archives are not accepted in the printing cart. Automatic pricing accepts STL in millimeters up to 25 MB and 220 × 220 × 220 mm. A format issue alone does not require a Vulcan engineering request. Basic checks on eligible STL files do not certify printability, strength, sealing or end-use fitness.

Is this an instant quote or an order?

Eligible STL files receive an instant printing estimate in USD, excluding shipping and tax. Proceed with quote collects your delivery address and checks Slant shipping. Taxes and import charges remain excluded. Prices are valid for one hour. Online payment is being set up, so this does not place an order. Manufacturability, final delivery and total cost must be confirmed before production.
